Avianus is a Roman gens name which may derive from the Latin avus (grandfather). Avianus is borne by a Late Roman fablist (A.D. 400).

Another gens name which shares the same etymological root is Avienus. Its female form being, Aviena.

Currently, its feminine form of Aviana has experienced sporadic use in the United States since the early 2000s due to the popularity of the similar sounding Ava.

Aviana is currently the 395th most popular female name in the United States (2018). It first entered the U.S. top 1000 in 2011.

Actress Amy Adams chose this name for her daughter in 2010, which she named in honour of the city of Aviano in Italy, which has the same etymology.
