   Here’s a long reply…. I hope you don’t mind but I LOVE that you are doing Norwegian names! <3

   Surprises:
   Anna Beatriz (especially with super Norwegian Vetle for a brother)
   Annlaug Berit (and siblings, all the names are very dated except for Balder)
   Åsne (dated again)
   Beatrix
   Cilia (and Drude, never heard Cilia, and Drude is more dated than most names
   Frid/Fryd (quite unusual, most people stick to Frida)
   Gulla (Ginny Weasly in Harry Potter is called Gulla in Norwegian, means 'golden')
   Gunn Elise (Gunn is dated, Elise is fashionable along with Erik, Andreas and Aurora)
   Gyda Amalie (almost the same as Gunn Elise
   Helga (dated)
   Hermine and her sister Julianne Margrethe Lykke (the 'unevenness' of the names is the worst)
   Hulda (just very unpleasing sonically)
   Leonor Eloise (good thing, Leonora is the preferred version, Leonor is a rarity)
   Lily/Lilli (hardly ever used in Norway)
   Lovis (I wouldn't be surprised by Lovise, but Lovis is a rarity!)
   Lycke (most people stick to Lykke)
   Marna Berntine (Dated)
   Mildrid Angelique (although I would guess french heritage since Rafael is a brother. Rafael is never used in Norway)
   Natalie Beatrice (and siblings, Natalie and Nathaniel are very similar, beatrice is hated by most, Chanett and Tanja are 80's dated (Chanett is Jeanette BTW))
   Sølve (usually a boys name, are you sure you got it right? if it's right, it's an obscure form of Sylvia via Sølvi)
   Tordis (and Ulf, dated again)

   Alv (means Fairy… and Alf is a variant that has nothing fairy-ish about it)
   Atle (dated)
   Ånon (dated and very unusual)
   Eldrid (this is a girls name, is this a mistake? I've NEVER seen it even considered for a boy!)
   Flemming (I would assume the use of this one was zero. It's just not a name people know about.)
   Heine/Henning/Hjalmar (dated)
   Iben (mostly used for girls nowadays. Are you sure it's right?)
   Jens/Joar (dated)
   Karolius (I know of it, but never seen it used… Carelius/Karelius would be my guess to follow the Cornelius trend…)
   Lasse Eugen/Milian Eugene (Eugen/Eugene is dated beyond belief, and so is Lasse by the way)
   Sofus/Sophus (I didn't think this one was being used, it's been reduced to cat-name by most)
   Tony Alexander (Tony is dated)

   Alfred and Clas (Alfred is getting back again, but Clas is like Glenn, out for good)
   Hogne and Trygve (Hogne is odd, I don't think most would even consider it)

   Never seen before:
   Alide – Alida is known, Alide would be a variation
   Althea/Altea – Not used in Norway
   Mimica – Not sure where this comes from
   Olande – Or this
   Karette – Pet form of Karen I would guess
   Elerine – Not sure of the source
   Beatrix – Never seen in Norway before, same with Beatriz in Anna Beatriz
   Cilia – Short form of Cecilia
   Ludvikke – Feminine form of Ludvig via Ludvik.
   Eilyn – I don't know where this is from
   Ellinea – would guess a smush of Ellinor and Linnea
   Enya – undoubtedly inspired by the singer, never seen in Norway
   Emmy – first sighting!
   Emthe – first sighting! a beautiful and obscure form of the even more obscure Emerentze (Emerance in English I think)
   Era – not sure of source, but bound to come with the 'short, two-syllable, max 4 letters' trend
   Levine – possibly from Levi, but Levi is hardly used so I don't really see how it's here
   Elemine – Elmine is a form of Elmer, never seen Elemine before
   Karloline – This one is just strange
   Helma – Selma with an H? I might have seen it before, but it's either way very dated sounding
   Ilona – New to Norway.
   Ira – See Era?
   Basse – Swedish pet name for Bjørn, not seen it in Norway before
   Basssine – As a sister to Basse? See that I guess…
   Wolfie – Wolf is rare enough, I would assume Wolfie to have at least one English parent
   Oktava – They're missing an I…
   Kristabell – Never seen this one before, and never thought I would, but 'belle' names are rising here…
   Leha – butchering Leah.
   Leja – Leia, but needed a J to mach the sibset
   Lenea – Variant of Linea I'd guess, they're taking off here
   Maija – Superflous J
   Majka – Know about Maika, Majka is new. I don't like J's…
   Marijanne – see Maija
   Kirabo – No idea.
   Evita – First sighting, don't think it will catch on, but E names are very trendy right now..
   Hilmara – Hilmar is a dated boys name, never seen Hilmara before but I quite like it!
   Moana – Maori name I think? not sure why someone put it on a Norwegian girl. I like it but prefer Moanna from the film 'Pan's Labyrinth'
   Aylin – See Eylin?
   Otelius – Male version of Ottilie via Othilie/Othelie/Otelie/Otilie
   Cedrik – new import
   Amathea – Never seen before, don't like it in Norwegian
   Lee – New import that's not importable since ee is not pronounced like the English ee
   Helmy – From Helmine which is from Helmer I'd guess, never seen
   Raga – Not sure of source, don't like
   Blix – huh?
   Sem – One of Noah's sons in the bible, but never seen on a person
   Kitty – Not used in Norway
   Sole – Never seen, assume it's related to Sol
   Gjendine – I only know this from a lullaby called 'Gjendines Bånsull'. Would have thought it died out with the song which was written a few hundred years ago
   Tinjar – with sister Tindra I'm surprised, but it would come in the wind of Viljar which is growing in popularity… I prefer Vinjar myself..
   Ranelka – where in the world did they get this one from?!?
   Wilja – Vilja is rising in popularity, but this is a new spelling to me
   Ilana – Never seen in Norway again
   Ailo – Very Finnish, never in Norway
   Lind – A last name here, never seen before, would have used on a girl personally
   Evida – See Evita? E names are trendy…
   Eiler – Familiar with Eilert, but I've never seen it without the T before
   Emelius – Emilie for boys?
   Anania – Ananias is a man in the Bible, would assume this is a feminine variant of an unused name.
   Melar – no clue
   Ellev – Know it as Ellef which I love, never seen this one before but F and V are often used the same way in Norse names
   Amander – Amanda and Alexander? Norwegians love names ending in Ander, but Alexander and Sander are too popular so they create their own
   Ivrin – Iver is known, Iverine is a feminine form, not sure what this is, I would have guessed a girl actually
   Jonatann – New, unappealing spelling since 'tann' means 'tooth' in Notwegian
   Kairon – Never seen before
   Khimhan – ?
   Lemet – ?
   Leonell – Never seen with a double L
   Lias – Would guess some short form, but I don't know of what
   Casander – see Amander?
   Malki – ?
   Nias – See Lias
   Rhinn – Just odd. Very strange…
   Benoni – Isn't this some fashion brand?
   Sakris – Would guess a short form of Sakarias, but Liquorice is 'Lakris in Norwegian so that's all I can think about
   Sigmuind – Is this just a typo?
   Amilia – New, but bound to show up sooner or later
   Larina – Would guess feminine form of Lars
   Melander – see Amander again? although this might be the worst I've seen, including Arctander and Krissander. 'Mel' is 'flour' in Norwegian
   Tian – short form is my guess, but of what again?
   Elmeri – Elmer, but special?
   Evander – see Amander… But this one is actually legit and nice! 🙂
   Linett – First sighting, don't approve methinks…
   Arin – Where from again?
   Annie – first time I've seen in Norway
   Atine – very unsure about this one as well
   Verena – I know it's a name, but I don't know more. First in Norway
   Mynte – Norwegian word for Mint, never seen as a name before. I prefer it over Timian (Thyme)
   Tabita – never used in Norway.
   Elid – is missing an A? If it had history I would love it!
   Diana – first sighting
   Dylan – ditto
   Augustin – LOVE, but first time I've seen it in Norway
   Imbert – Reminds me of Embret which I like, but I've never seen this before
   Joris – never heard, would assume female..
   Talita – New to me…

     Eldrid-actually I don’t even remember this one, I could’ve made a mistake
     Iben-This one was a boy. I am positive because I double checked since I’ve seen it only on girls too, but I have read in Norwegian name sites that it is actually originally a male name.
     Sofus/Sophus-Yeah, I saw at least a three of these. I didn’t list them because I didn’t want to include endless repeats.

     I love getting perspective from a Norwegian! 🙂

     Some of these names are immigrant or imported names (Elmeri = Finnish OR North African, Joris = Dutch for George, Lemet = French family name, Nias = Celtic, Arin = rare variant of English/Irish Erin), others are local variants that are seen only in certain parts of the country (Benoni is from Northern Norway, e.g. Hamsun’s “Benoni og Rosa”, as is Blix as a family name). A couple (Aino, for instance) are Samii. I personally know no less than three named Åsne, so it can’t be that dated.

     Hi,

     Ellinea is a combination of Ella and Linnea.

     I’m English and my wife is Norwegian. Both the name Ella and Linnea were on our list of favourite possible baby names that we considered to use for our baby daughter. We loved it that we came up with a name that combined a popular English sounding name with a Norwegian one.

     Great post by the way, rather impresive; you clearly have more than just a passing interest in names!
