Neda strikes me as a wearable exotic – save that she'd probably spend her days insisting, "It's neh DAH not NEE dah." And what an interesting meaning, too.
I was watching CNN today about the girl who was shot in Iran. Her name was Neda too and a reporter mentioned that the name means "call" as in "a call" to God.
I would have to agree with you, though, this would cause a lot of pronunciation problems outside of Iran. Even today, the reporters kept saying (NAY-duh) or (NEE-duh).
